Dr. Martin Taylor MBE to Launch Online Jazz Guitar Academy

Martin Taylor

Napa, CA (PRWEB) March 24, 2010

Dr. Martin Taylor MBE is pleased to announce his partnership with online video exchange pioneers, ArtistWorks, Inc. The team will launch the Martin Taylor Guitar Academy (MTGA) on April 15, enabling students from around the world to receive a unique interactive education with the jazz guitar virtuoso online. Martin Taylor has established an extraordinary career as an internationally acclaimed musician, and his distinctive style has seen him recognized as a veritable modern master of solo jazz guitar playing.

Taylor has enjoyed a remarkable musical career spanning four decades and is known as a true guitar innovator for his ability to syncopate rapid bass lines with the guitar melody, often incorporating thumb-upstrokes on the bass strings for a distinct rhythmic quality. Taylor is widely recognized for his acoustic group “The Spirit of Django” and collaboration with musicians from various genres including, Stephane Grappelli, Chet Atkins, Bill Wyman, George Harrison, Dionne Warwick, Sacha Distel, Bryn Terfel, David Grisman and Jamie Cullum.

Taylor is an Honorary Doctor of the University of Paisley, Scotland, and in 2002 was appointed MBE (Member of the British Empire) “For Services to Jazz Music” by HM Queen Elizabeth of England. Taylor has received a long list of prestigious awards, including recognition by the International Association for Jazz Education. With the advent of the MTGA partnership, he will now preside over a worldwide student body of solo and fingerstyle players.

Taylor will share his inimitable talent and expertise in over 150 HD video lessons that range from simple tunes to highly advanced playing. The extensive video curriculum is presented on the innovative ArtistWorks online platform, allowing Taylor to use the latest internet video exchange technology to break the barrier of one-sided learning. Taylor personally instructs students through the video exchange system — using a simple webcam, students can submit a video of themselves practicing their online lessons, which Taylor will review and issue a Video Response. Both videos are then posted together on the site so that the entire online community can learn, 24/7. Video submission is not required, study is self-paced. Students will be able to access multiple versions of most lessons, including an overhead perspective as well as slowed down and pitch-corrected videos. Perhaps the most anticipated feature of the MTGA lessons is the transcription — Martin Taylor’s work is notoriously difficult to transcribe and will be a valuable reference tool for students for mastering each lesson. The MTGA incorporates fully featured social media, including Student Profile Pages, Messaging, Forums and Chat — uniting the world of solo and fingerstyle guitarists in one central place. The Martin Taylor Guitar Academy resides at http://www.MartinTaylorGuitar.com .

The MTGA launch closely coincides with the release of Taylor’s newest recording. To mark the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Django Reinhardt, one of the founders of European jazz, Martin Taylor has reformed his award winning group “Spirit of Django” after a 15 year hiatus. The new album is entitled “Last Train to Hauteville.” If you can imagine the ideal soundtrack to driving through the scented country roads of France on a hot lazy summer’s day then it would be the music of Martin Taylor’s Spirit of Django. C.F. MARTIN & CO. CELEBRATES 170th ANNIVERSARY. FOUNDED IN 1833 THE MARTIN GUITAR COMPANY IS THE OLDEST SURVIVING MAKER OF GUITARS IN THE WORLD AND THE LARGEST PRODUCER OF ACOUSTIC GUITARS IN THE UNITED STATES

Nazareth, PA (PRWEB) July 3, 2003

C.F. Martin & Co. is celebrating its 170th anniversary as the oldest surviving maker of guitars in the world. The company is currently the largest producer of acoustic guitars in the United States. Known for creating some of the finest instruments and introducing innovations that have become industry standards, the company, founded in the U.S. in 1833 by Christian Frederick Martin, has been continuously family owned and operated for six generations.

C.F. Martin & Co. has survived a wide variety of economic, social and political upheavals including the Civil War, post-war turmoil, influxes of immigrant populations with varying tastes and customs, World War I, the “roaring 20s,” the Great Depression, World War II, The Vietnam years and the technological revolution. Through it all, Martin not only survived, but its reputation and outreach ultimately improved and increased. In recent years, despite the global economic downturn, Martin has been setting company sales records, and they will soon begin work on a special guitar to commemorate the crafting of their millionth acoustic instrument.

Martin has earned an unparalleled reputation for dedication to exceptional quality and focus on one product – superbly well-crafted acoustic guitars. During the company’s long history, Martin branched out into related fields, producing mandolins in the late 1800s, and becoming one of the top manufacturers of ukuleles in the 1920s. Purchasing the Darco String Company from the D’Addario family in 1970, quality guitar strings have now become an integral part of C.F. Martin & Co’s operations.

Responsible for creating a number of industry standards through the years, C.F. Martin & Co. developed “x-bracing,” the 14-fret guitar and the “dreadnought” size – all of which have been copied by virtually every acoustic guitar manufacturer in the world.

Current Chairman and CEO Christian (“Chris”) Frederick Martin, IV, took the helm of the company in 1986. Under his tutelage, there has been a complete renovation and expansion of the Martin factory in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Martin has also introduced new, affordable guitars featuring innovative materials and patented technology unique to the Martin line. In addition, Chris has overseen the introduction of the Vintage Series and Golden Era Guitars that pay tribute to the extraordinarily crafted and highly collectible pre-war Martins. The company also introduced select signature models that pay tribute to the world’s most significant and prestigious artists.

Private Reserve Guitars Celebrates Martin’s 175th Anniversary

Private Reserve Guitars Celebrates Martin’s 175th Anniversary

Medford, OR (PRWEB) June 27, 2008 -

Premier guitar manufacturer C.F. Martin & Co., in conjunction with Private Reserve Guitars, is commemorating Martin’s 175th year of producing acoustic guitars. The latest Martin models usher in a new acoustic generation and pay tribute to the guitars of yesteryear.

Martin Ditson Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Back when the guitar was played in orchestras, Martin developed a larger and deeper body style to increase the guitar’s volume, enabling it to compete with the louder instruments. Martin named these bigger-bodied models “dreadnoughts” after the behemoth battleships used in the First World War. Initially collaborating with the Oliver Ditson Co., Martin made these dreadnought acoustic guitars exclusively for that company, and the earliest models were produced under the Ditson name.

The Martin Ditson Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar replicates the original 1916 model with mahogany back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top, Brazilian rosewood headplate and binding, special three-in-line Waverly tuners and the original “Oliver Ditson Co., Boston, New York” stamp created in 1916 on the back of the headstock. Martin’s partnership with Ditson lasted until 1930, and in the following year Martin released their first dreadnought model — the D28 — with its own Martin brand.

Martin HD-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

The HD-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar incorporates all the historic elements of the legendary and beloved D-28. Representing the golden era of Martin guitars, the HD-28′s vintage appointments include herringbone trim, traditional zigzag back strip, and Martin’s famous scalloped X-bracing that allows the top to vibrate more freely, yielding a louder, more open tone.

Martin POW MIA Acoustic Guitar

Designed by a small group of Martin employees, the Martin POW MIA model Acoustic Guitar was built to honor the families of American servicemen and women who were held captive or are still missing in action. Part of the proceeds from every POW MIA acoustic guitar sale is donated to the National Alliance of Families which works for the return of America’s missing servicemen and women.

Martin D-35 Johnny Cash Commemorative Acoustic Guitar

The D-35 Johnny Cash Commemorative Guitar pays tribute to the legendary American folk and country icon with a polished, black gloss lacquer finish and fine appointments. Based on Cash’s own Martin D-35 Custom, the headstock sports Grover Rotomatic enclosed chrome tuners. Johnny Cash’s signature in pearl appears between the 19th and 20th frets and a special interior label honors the “Man in Black.” Each sequentially numbered instrument is personally signed by Cash’s son, John Carter Cash and by Martin chairman C. F. Martin IV.
